How to buy the wrong ticket

No. In general tickets to London Terminals aren't valid on the tube, apart from tickets from the ECML being valid to Moorgate.

Ok accepting that. What my concern is that I cannot check what route IS permitted. I cannot see an option to check routing when I try and buy a ticket online.

Found some useful information but it took some digging. I also found that when the options are shown on the GTR website is also give me the option to filter out "any permitted" and "via city thameslink"

IF I was buying the season ticket and I wanted blackfriars and wanted to go via city thameslink then I would be filtering my results.

I wonder IF the is some kind of permitted route. From how I read up Stevenage to moorgate should also be permitted.

Oh dear. The incompetence is breathtaking.

Not just GTR. When I tried to buy a St Pancras to Brighton route 'Not Underground' ticket at Cambridge, a member of AGA staff attempted to sell me a London Terminals to Brighton route 'Thameslink Only' ticket (confusingly exactly the same price), on the grounds that "It's OK, because St Pancras is a London Terminal". I soon put him straight!

Is there any sensible reason why Farringdon continues to be excluded from 'London Terminals'? I know it's owned by TfL, but the mere passenger is not interested in that sort of guff. If there are valid commercial reasons for this, is there no hope of modifying the rules on the basis that it would very obviously be in the customers' interest to eliminate what looks to them to be a bizarre anomaly.

I wonder if there would be considerable overcrowding in the Thameslink core and at stations such as St Pancras low-level and London Bridge if Thameslink were made a member of London Terminals

Perhaps in the short term, but likely not after the completion of the Thameslink 2000 upgrades.
