HOW TO BECOME A UK TRAIN CONDUCTOR book ?

Hi everyone

I've seen this book on internet but can not buy it anywhere ( the book is called HOW TO BECOME A UK TRAIN CONDUCTOR – The insider’s guide) ....I was just wondering if anyone on here might have this book and doesn't need it ? obviously I'd pay for this and willing to pay alot for this
A conductor job is my dream job I feel this book may help me get a job

theres more than enough info on this website to help you along i wouldnt bother with a book mate
plus there are plenty of people who are currently in the role to answer any questions you have

I purchased this book through ebay. I have not finished with the book as yet, as I am waiting for my interview, which I am not sure when it could be.

It prepared me in what to put on application forms, and also for the Bourdon tests, and ticket selling/checking tests. Hopefully it is preapring me well for the interview, whenever that happens. I only just did and passed my Assessment last Friday. I am now waiting for when a vacancy arises at thedepot I have applied for.

I am probably really jumping the gun here, as I have not even had an interview or got the job. I am just wondering what to expect, should I be successful. I have seen what to expect, if your going for a Train Driving role, but can find nothing under the Trainee Conductor role. I am just interested as I know that I would be better prepared. Is it Classroom based at first? Do you get your uniform before you start or during the first week?

Just does not add up for me, have you actually passed the tests?

It sounds to me like he's done the formal assessments but not a manager's interview yet.

I can only echo what was put further up. There's more than enough of us working for various TOC's on here that can give you all the information you need on the role.

Too right! I was very tempted to get the "How to become a Train Driver" collection but I managed to find everything I needed here (RailUKForums)!

I've since been offered a driver position and I'm still going for another interview next week!

It all comes down to how much research your willing to do.

Right I now understand. Below is a generic rundown:-

1. Pass Interview
2. Go for medical and pass medical.
3. Start date offered
4. Induction at the company headquarters possibly for a week all expenses paid including Hotel if your local depot is far away.
5. At induction you will need take photographs with you or they will take them, you will be issued a travel pass, you will be measured for your uniform and you will have a few talks from managers and a possible visit from a director.
6. After induction you will most likely have to report to you allocated depot to your new line manager.
7. You will then be put on a training program.

Hope this helps, all companies are different but this is the usual process.
