How to avoid the airport public transport tax surcharges.

The direct bus number 100E costs 1500HUF (about £3.30)

However if you catch bus 200E from the airport to Kobanya-Kispest interchange then catch the metro each section costs 350HUF plus if you buy city travelcards at the airport they are valid on the 200E/metro but not on the 100E, and the metro may well take you closer to where you want to go.

The 200E will also take you to the airport railway station and you can get a train to Nyugati station if this is convenient or you are connecting to somewhere else from there by train, this train fare depends on the type of train you catch but I think you can use a travelcard again. Last time we were in Hungary we came in from the east (Szolnok) directly to the airport station without traversing Budapest at all.

Having said that I don't really consider 1500HUF an onerous fare compared to the UK ripoffs.

The above logic still stands, but just a price update to this:

Single tickets are now 500HUF

A 90 minute ticket (which will cover both the 2OOE and then Metro Line 3 or mainline as appropriate, and is good for 90 minutes of starting journeys (you are valid up until the end of the line on your last journey if you validate on minute 89) is now 850HUF (cheaper than 2x singles)

The airport express ticket is now 2500HUF

Kuala Lumpur:

1. KLIA Ekspres 55 MYR/£10.56 (to KL centre)
2. By KLIA Transit (same thing basically as the Ekspres) to Putrajaya Sentral MRT station 9.4 MYR, then 5.70 from there to central KL by MRT & LRT = 15.10 = £2.90 (or slightly cheaper using Touch and Go contactless payment)
3. For overnight accommodation near the airport to avoid a timeconsuming/expensive commute, travel to Salak Tinggi (4.4 MYR/£0.80 by KLIA Transit), and you can take a cheap taxi to your acommodation.

Jakarta
1. Kereta Bandara to Sudirman Baru/Manggarai (centre) 85,000rp/£3.77

At Newcastle you can get off the Metro at Callerton Parkway and catch the free bus from there to the Airport. Therefore you only need a Metro ticket to Zone B, rather than C.

My main aim is to cover airports that have some expensive surcharge on public transport. Aberdeen and Manchester do not. If i include every airport then the list will be never ending. So i am focusing just on airports with expensive surcharges on some of their public transport.

Luckily the majority of our airports in the UK do not have these public transport surcharges.

Bournemouth Airport

Bournemouth Airport appears to have hardly any public transport - only a handful of buses per day, early morning and late afternoon. A colleague of mine flew from there recently and had to get a taxi from Christchurch, having got there by train from Exeter via Salisbury and Southampton.

Last time i used Bournemouth airport i walked from the airport to Parley Cross which took me 45 minutes. I am a fast walker but a slower walker would probably take 60 minutes. From there i was able to pick up the 13 or 13A bus to get in to Bournemouth city centre. This bus runs every twenty minutes. This is the only option to avoid a taxi if your flight does not connect with the extremely infrequent 737 bus.

I took Taxi from Bournemouth Railway Station when I flew from BOH. I flew into SOU from GLA on EZY and was in the centre of Southampton for 0745.
