How suitable is Glasgow for a council run bus service?

Hi guys, with First being up for sale and Mcgills struggling I would love to know what you think of the idea of a council run bus network in Glasgow and if it would work.

I am unsure personally as it would depend massively on fleet investment and cost of fares so I would love to know what you think.

Glasgow has a lot on its plate financially with round 500 million being paid as back pay to female workers and cut backs in
Public spending It would be difficult for them to find the money when priorities are education and elderly care etc

Yeah I've seen a lot of people be all for a council run service but it would be more problematic than First have ever been especially with the things you mention going on right now. Has to be kept private

It wouldn't only be Glasgow City Council. There would also need to be support from North Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire, East Dunbartonshire, West Dunbartonshire and East Renfrewshire. We could be waiting a very long time for this to happen if it ever does.

Also Renfrewshire and Inverclyde would be hit if their dominant operator McGills goes.
the only thing going for any public arms length buyouts would be the existence of SPT backed by all the councils mentioned above (plus more)

Yeah I think it's highly unlikely that we will ever see it go council run here but I'm not sure who would want to buy it out anytime soon. Probably looking at 12/18 months minimum for a sale of any sort
