How secure is a job with Northern?

Hi, new poster here with a Conductor interview in the near future.

A couple of questions - I have read through current posts but couldn't find an answer to this;

Bearing in mind Northern's franchise ends in April 2014, how secure would a Conductor job with Northern be? I'm currently in a permanent contract in my current job and trying to weigh up the pros and cons.

Also I've read the salary rises to approximately £24,000 after training. Are there are further wage increases?

I asked this and it changes nothing if they don't get the franchise as you'll simply work for the new company that takes over. Their exact words were you'd simply have to wear a different coloured uniform.

You will just TUPE transfer over to the new company, your only change will be a new uniform

Your only entitled to a TUPE transfer with over 12 months service. Although I'd say you were probably pretty safe!

The 24400 Salary does not include working Sundays which are paid as overtime or your commission.

I transfered under TUPE after 2 months service! Your contract will be with the railway not the operating company. For example our contracts are with London and Eastern Railway, not GA. Like everyone else has said you will transfer to whoever the new franchisee holder is.

Perhaps that was badly worded. What I mean is that you don't have the RIGHT to be TUPE'd until you have one years service. That's not saying it won't happen but you should understand you have no right to be TUPE'd until you hit 12 months service with any employer!

If the current Tory scum government get there own way that will increase to 2 years shortly as well!
