Like, how roomy were they, were they cramped like the A1/A1X Terriers or wide like a tender engine?

There is one at the Spa Valley Railway which is not too far from you. If you ask nicely I'm sure they would allow you to look round the cab, especially if it's not in steam.
A couple of years a go whilst at the SVR steam gala I asked the driver of 1450 at Arley a question and in a second or two I was invited into the cab for a quick explanation
