How much for a Locomotive

Just as a bit of a topic how much if money was no object would you pay for a locomotive.
I was reading earlier of locomotives put up for sale and I just wondered what kind of price they fetch. I know condition etc comes into it as with anything but I'm just curious.
Before anyone says it I'm not in the position to buy one nor do I work for someone who is.

Depends what it is really and how old. If my memory serves correctly a brand new 66 is about 1.5 million? No doubt someone will correct me.

I think they were about that when they were first ordered back in the late 90s, I also have a recollection of reading that the quote from Brush for further class 60s as an alternative to the 66 was something like half as much again per locomotive, I have it somewhere that the 92s cost about 3m apiece a quarter of a century ago.

surely if money was no object you would spend what was required to secure your chosen locomotive? :?

Or from the other end of the scale.
If buying scrap locos then Tonnage X Current Scrap metal price.
I believe currently Good steel scrap is approx £90/t currently.

I think second hand is implied and yes its basically scrap value.

Don't forget to add on some extra for the few tonnes of copper in there as well, it isn't just steel!
