That's assuming that everyone wants to look out the window. In my experience most travelers find something more interesting to do.

I think people want the option of looking out of the window when they want, simple as that.

It can also be very important for some people, as a disconnect between visual input and motion sensed by the ear can be a cause of motion sickness. I.e. if the visual input doesn't match what is being sensed by the ear, they can become very ill.

It can also be a very pleasant break from the normal pace of things to just relax focus and watch the world go by in quiet contemplation.

I travel on trains with 'misaligned' windows/seats every day (Class 222) and it bothers me not a jott. I'd far rather have a seat than look out at the same view I see every day to and from Leicester.

Yes but how many travelers actually do this? Most seem to relax by reading a book, looking at their Kindle or watching something on their tablet.

I always try to get a window seat where possible, and I do spend a fair amount of time gazing outside when I am able to do so - but if my choice is between no seat and a seat with no view, I just find another way to occupy myself instead. It's no big deal. On SET as with many other units the proportion of seats with no view will be significantly less than those with a full or partial view, leaving your chance of getting a window seat still pretty good - yes, it would be lovely to have a view with every seat, but this is a dream on a railway that is building units for an ever increasing number of passengers. That's just the way things are!
