I'm trying to understand and quantify an operational risk profile in the UK and in order to do so I need to compare the estimated number of fixed formation multiple unit trains in service (on NR rails) on any given week day with the number of trains that aren't fixed formation multiple units: so TOC & FOC loco hauled passenger and freight, light engine, OTM, OTP (in possessions) and charter operations.
I come from a TOC background so can relatively easily and accurately estimate the number of fixed formation multiple units & loco hauled passenger stock in service on any week day and I've also worked in plant, so have an idea on OTM & OTP.
But I've got no idea how many freight and light engine trains runs on any given week day (00.01 to 23.59 as a day for this exercise) across the UK.
Anyone got any numbers from a reliable source or experience, or can point me in the direction of a source?
TIA
