How many signals?

No, relax, I'm not asking how many signals there are on the GB network!

Just curious how many signals a driver might need to observe and respond to over the course of a journey.

I appreciate this will vary widely but, for example, on a non-stop run from Crewe to Euston (Fast Line all the way, no diversionary route etc) how many signals?

I would guess 200+ but I could be way out.

Interested in other routes too - I imagine Hunts Cross-Southport (e.g.) would have a lot of signals crammed in.

Can't help with CRE-EUS, but looking at the signalling diagrams it looks like a driver would read 37 signals between Hunts Cross and Southport.

Someone will know a more accurate figure but I think typical signal spacing on open line on the southern WCML is about three-quarters of a mile, so 200 is the right ball park.
