So I done one about flying and some people said about 16 each so how many train journeys have you done internationally? I’m only at around 2-3 but I can do as many as 5 or 6 a year. You can include day trips from other cities in Europe or just Eurostar journeys.

Taking a day as a journey
Amsterdam - Haarlem, Haarlem - Berlin, Berlin - Wismar, Wismar - Stralsund, Stralsund - Binz auf Rugen, Binz - Berlin, Berlin - Rotterdam Alex + metro to Hoek.
I make that 8 travel days, possibly 9 - 11 separate trains depending on how we're counting.

Depends on how we're counting indeed, I crossed a border 10 times using 7 different trains on 4 different days. One of these days was in fact just return trip Zürich - Schaffhausen though as that line goes into Germany for a few kilometres, so only 6 out of the 10 border crossings were with the intention to reach another country.

5 Eurostar returns plus Paris to Nice, Nice to Diano Marina, Diano Marina to Peschiera del Garda, Peschiera to Zurich, Zurich to Paris, Paris to Barcelona, Barcelona to Argèles sur Mer, Argèles to Lyon, Lyon to Lille, Lille to Brugge. That's 20 days travelling, mostly cross-border.

I forgot Chester to Wrexham - international surely?

I don't count my international trips. I had 4 Interrail passes this year, one for each season: winter and spring each 10 days/2 months, summer 3 months continuous, autumn 10 days/2 months. I normally use the passes for several trips each. And there are other private and work-related trips abroad.

Depends on how you're counting indeed. Crossed a border by train 10 times (counting each border only once a day, otherwise it's 11 times).

The international trips were Amersfoort - Liège - Luxembourg, Luxembourg - Trier - Offenburg - Konstanz - Winterthur, Winterthur - Leoben - Vienna (two extra crossings for passing through Liechtenstein), Vienna - Hannover - Amersfoort and a one day round trip Amersfoort - Dortmund - Wuppertal - Amersfoort.

Unfortunately none yet. The international train services don't go from where I live to where I want to go.

I live in London and the international destinations I visit often are the Nordic region, and Lithuania, which requires a large detour on rails compared to by air, as there is the North Sea in between. I visited Poland earlier but unfortunately the trains didn't get my custom because they were much worse than by air.

I'm still considering a trip to Amsterdam again this December but haven't decided yet.

Prague to Vienna last Monday. What should have been a simple change in Breclav turned into a right palaver!

Maybe when Rail Baltica is finished in the 2030s. Fast trains from Warsaw or a sleeper from Berlin. It's still a long old distance though!

I count 43, around a third of which were Eurostar.

Most memorable: Ljubljana to Zagreb along the stunning Sava River, after spending all day in Slovenian A&E with suspected appendicitis! (Thankfully it wasn't)

Cheapest: Probably Donosti-San Sebastián to Hendaye on the metro.

Best value: London to Brussels on a £35 Snap fare which somehow booked me into a declassified 1st class coach.

Much less than usual this year, just a return trip to Amsterdam from London before the construction works curtailed it.

Not in Europe sorry, but also did an international trip between Arica, Chile and Tacna, Peru on the once per day railcar. Highly recommend!

Much more as usual, as holding after a 2-month InterRail global from the 25% off black frd sale a DE-ticket for 5 months and doing weekly trips from NL to there=2/week, but of course often on same lines. Must really delve into my notes-which I cannot as for the mo in tropical TH/Bkk, but should come out as around 101 total- maybe few more/less. Includes 1 ride on the €* LON->RTM, via 3 borders.
The only really INTernational raillink out of here THailand is now the newly built into Laos, but that one have not done (yet?). The former BKK-Butterworth=across Penang express is no more=change at border which is in fact indeed also the actual border. THey could-and if it were the Thai to decide would, also re-make an INTernational link to Cambodia. THat minor line has been ectended a few KM from former alst stop till close to border

One EWurostar trip to Paris in June this year.

I'm guessing the dozens and dozens of local moves within the Paris zones for haulages don't count for the purposes of this thread...? :)

0, as I wanted to go from Sarajevo to Belgrade but I found it wasn't possible. Ended up flying as a bus would have wasted a whole day and an overnight bus didn't sound attractive.

I’ve done 2 European holidays by rail in 2024. Bold indicates an overnight stay (1-4 nights in all cases). * indicates a sleeper train.

York - London - Paris - Zurich - Wadenswil - Chur - Tirano - Colico - ComoSG - Milan - Verona - Bolzano - Fortezza - Lienz - Vienna * Brussels - London - York

(Fly LBA to Zadar, Flixbus to Zagreb) Zagreb - Budapest - Bratislava * Prague - Dresden - Berlin * Amsterdam - Zandvoort - Amsterdam - Brussels - Bruges - Brussels - London - York

If you mean “train trips crossing an international frontier” rather than “train trips in a foreign country” then it’s:
Oradea - Debrecen
Sopron- Wiener Neustadt
Wien - Znojmo.

If it’s the latter - based on originating country:
IT: 30
RO:4
HU: 7
AT: 22
CZ: 28
DE: still to come

If it counts as crossing an international border by train..... I live in Basel so I basically sneeze and I have gone to Germany or France by accident (not just by train, but also by tram if that counts... though I have also accidentally crossed the border on foot without realising last week haha)

But counting international trips for the purpose of tourism or travel (rather than seeing friends across the border, or going across the border to buy something specific only available in German or French supermarkets), it's been only 3x this year... Zurich - Munich, Basel - Colmar and Basel - Milan to celebrate the Gotthard Base Tunnel reopening.

Not much this year.
Went to Rotterdam from Brussels and back, to participate to a steam excursion. Which was itself an international trip from Rotterdam to Frankfurt.
Then went from Charleroi to Maubeuge to try this new SNCB international service.
And I will go to Paris in Early December.
Next year I'll certainly go to Paris again to try the new belgian eurocity service over the non high speed line.
And I plan a circular trip Brussels Frankfurt Zurich Chur Tirano Milano Domodossola Locarno Basel Strasbourg Luxembourg Brussels in four days next January. Will soon start a new thread to discuss that in detail.

So far this year, I've travelled on foreign trains in 25 different countries over 84 days this year so far, over a distance of 13,082 miles. Still, the majority of my rail travel is in Britain.

Border crossings by train this year:

UK - France: 2
France - Switzerland: 2 (+ 4 by tram, near Basle).
Switzerland - Italy: 2

Close but not quite:
3 Swiss - German by tram.
2 Italian - Greek (Milan - Athens) journeys using combination of sea, bus and rail, but no border crossing by train involved
2 Italy - San Marino bus journeys as part of a trip mainly by rail.
