How long will the Class 158 & 159 soldier on for?

It will all be under GBR by then and all the other operators of the 158/159 will be in a similar situation, along with the slightly younger 165s and 166s. I would expect GBR to procure against a common specification, either one supplier or two, for all these operations plus any remaining 150s and 156s.

Are there any 170 fleets that are likely to be replaced along with the 15xs? Maybe Northern? I thought there was a plan to standardise the EMR fleet on 170, 360 & 810, but it was a while ago that I read that, if indeed I did.

Northern's may be replaced as part of a possibly mythical "phase 3" of the big replacement, 158s are Phase 2, so probably doesn't count as alongside.
So far only Phase 1 (150, 155, 156, 769) is in the pipeline and first units aren't expected until ~2031 at the absolute earliest.

I suppose there's a plan for new trains for Chiltern, that may free up some 168s, which presumably wouldn't be impossible to convert to 170s.
