Hi all. Ive just seen the advertisement for trainee train drivers. Its ststes that after you are fully qualified you will be on £56k. How long does it take to fully qualified?

Out of curiosity what's company as that's the higher pay bracket and those particular firms generally don't take on trainees.
To answer your question a) depends on the candidate b) again the operator as they may scale they pay at certain stages of the training it which case it could be a couple of years

"Fully qualified" usually means that you have passed out, sign all routes and all traction that you depot/link sign, and that you are out of your PQA period or after so many productive shifts completed (depends on your TOC conditions). Dependant on the TOC you are looking at at least a year to possibly three.

MTR crossrail are currently recruiting for trainee train drivers. The pay scale is £26k - £56k when fully qualified. The job im at now im on £35k so was curious to how the pay scales work.
Trainee wage will be for approx 12-18 months. It really depends on how long it takes to get your 250 driving hours done with an instructor and how long it takes the company to get a manager free to do your assessments.
Not sure specifically on Xrail but some TOCs go straight up to full drivers salary as soon as you are passed out. Others step the salary up over the first year or so. My toc pay trainees 50% of drivers money and then as soon as they pass out they re straight onto 100%.

At my TOC, I was on a training wage for the duration of the training, around 10 months, once I'd completed all my classroom, handling and traction hours and signed off all the routes I was passed out and straight up to the full wage.
As mentioned above though, seems like different TOCs do it different.
