HOW line new timetable

Why is the 1405 now timed to leave at 1404 as of May timetable change?
Also on the way back up the train departs Knighton at 1619 instead of 1615.
Its things like this that culd cause people to miss a connection.

If you take a look, you'll see that no connection times have changes for Wolves or Birmingham form the 1619, and Crewe is only 2 mins later, though I suspect that is in a change to the service itself. Southbound, the 1404 allows a better connection from Crewe and exactly the same connection from Wolves and New St!

The funny thing is, if somebody had answered the question that the right honourable gentlemen set, this thread could have been finished after one post!! Instead its taken 4/5 posts arguing about where it should be, and we are still no closer to the answer!! Come on, own up, which of you works in the rail industry!!!!

I gather that previously, 14.05 Swansea departure and then the 14.15 London Midland arrival from Birmingham meant only 10 minutes break for the station staff - this was ok, but when they had to start using cheaper teabags because of budget constraints, it was found that the brewing time wasn't quite enough for the rail standard approved cuppa.
Hence the alteration to 14.04, just enough time for the perfect brew.

Guys, you're missing the big news story here: the 16:18 departure from Shrewsbury on Sundays is down as leaving from platform 3! (According to the National Rail online search anyway..)

Its always been the Central Wales Line.... its just the "Heart of Wales Huggers" who deem it HoW.

I don’t know what the exact situation is here, but it’s possible that moving the time back a minute has allowed for the official connection time into an earlier train from Crewe than was previously the case, that previously just missed out (i.e. it might have been possible to make that earlier train in practice when the departure time was 14:05, but it wouldn’t have been advertised or made available as a connection for a through journey). But like I say I don’t know if that’s the case here, it’s just an idea.

I think that its because the WTT departure time is 14.05 1/2 but the advertised departure time was sensibly shown as half a minute earlier, namely 14.05. However under the new EU directive 2011/65/3429 (harmonisation of timetabling across member states), where a working time is 30 seconds after an even minute on first half of the clockface (ie 1 - 30 mins past the hour, the advertised time has to be advanced to the next odd minute whilst when its 30 seconds after an odd minute the time is brought back to that odd minute, whilst the opposite applies on the secongd half of the hour (31 - 00 mins).

The new system is being trialled on rural lines and this is why the Central/Heart of Wales line was chosen for the trial. However, due to the complexity of EU regulations the instructions were misunderstood and so the departure time was amended to 14.04.
