How does the counter work on the threads ?

I thought I`d check how many people had read some threads but the figure for "Views" doesn`t seem to follow any trend.
I tried to read a thread (both logged in and not logged in) but the "Views" figure didn`t go up, so how does it work ?

If it's like most forums it'll count you once per day and will do it from your IP address.

Tried using a second computer to see if it goes up one from that?
