How does the 'alerter' work ?

In Railworks, what causes the alerter to activate ? It seems to suddenly go on and, before I can reset it, the emergency braking has activated.:cry:

It's activated by AWS ramps, that are found in advance of signals and warnings of speed reductions. They look long and thin, are yellow and are in the centre of the running line. They will only go off when a signal displays an aspect other than green.

They will also go off if the aspect is green but will be just a ding or similar and doesn't need acknowledging.

I think you can stop them by using simple controls

Thanks for your help. I've noticed that as my train passes over the yellow activator trip on the track in the UK that nothing usually happens. Yet the alerter goes off at times that I don't see the activator on the track and I don't pass a red signal. :cry:
