This afternoon (May 19th) a 12-coach Thameslink 700 bound for Brighton stopped half a mile south of Finsbury Park station. We waited for about 25 minutes and the the driver (Who had been apologising at intervals) told us that the train had "given up the ghost" and, when we started moving again, he had obviously fixed the problem Paused on a nearby line was an LNER Azuma with the name 'Eleanor' on its side. This did not start moving, so It was not a loss of power on the southbound OHLE (trains sere moving on the northbound tracks so it was not a loss of power in the area).
I seem to remember stories in the early days of fht 700 fleet that 700s with a problem could be fixed by a technician with a laptop. Can 700s be re-started by the driver these days? The Microsoft 'turn off the computer then turn it back on' fix?
