RoyalOak, I would wholeheartedly suggest that you go on a training course, just to see how difficult it is to get around in a wheelchair, or with atheritis or other mobility impairment.

With the best will in the world we are not going to be able to make EVERYWHERE accessible for mobility impaired people, but your attitude is completely unacceptable and just shows your utter ignorance on this matter.

As an aside, on PSV accessibility, the DfT has this to say on the matter:

DfT said:
All full size single deck buses over 7.5 tonnes will be fully accessible from 1 January 2016, and all double deck buses from 1 January 2017. New buses weighing up to 7.5 tonnes and coaches will be required to have wheelchair access from 1 January 2005. All buses weighing up to 7.5 tonnes will be fully accessible from 1 January 2015 and coaches by 1 January 2020.

Getting over a footbridge with my dodgy knee is bad enough, especially with both hands full. I'm currently in my twenties, so heaven knows what that'll be like after forty more years of wear and tear.

This whole issue comes up on a regular basis. I don't know if there was ever a situation where the friendly porter would ask the signalman if anything was due, and then happily wheel the chair-bound passenger over the barrow crossing to the other side. However, I remember one occasion when a chair-bound passenger from Weymouth was trying to get out of Castle Cary, and the original suggestion was 'go to Westbury, then come back'. However, any train from Westbury would have landed him right back on the island platform. Going to Taunton was apparently the only option, until someone remembered that the barrow crossing existed.
