How do you Train Spot/Veg/Bash/Whatever

lol!, Reference to my old thread.

Most of the time Coat, and Track Bottoms and the not forgetable TRAINERS. Although I do go abit diabolical and wear shoes known as 'crocs' in the winter time hock:, but Im usaully wearing trainers!.

That would seem to go without saying I'd have thought!

Shirt/t-shirt (depending on the weather), accompanied by a thick jumper for warmth when required, jeans/trousers with lots of pockets (for books, pens, etc), trainer-boots is my norm. In very warm weather, I have been known to veg it out in places in long-length shorts.

I must confess that I'm relieved to hear it. Wouldn't have thought it worthy of it's own thread, though.

What I'm more interested in is how many of you gricers try to blend in as far as possible. I've seen some choice specimens on Bethnal Green platforms over the past couple of years complete with greasy hair, National Health specs, parka jacket and trousers (usually brown) that end at least two inches from the shoes. But then there are the ones that you know only because they stand in certain spots on the platform or you catch them muttering into some manner of handheld device.

Either way, you should be aware that, to a railwayman, there is almost nowhere for you to hide. If there's a gricer on the platform we'll usually spot him.

There's nothing worse than looking like a spotter. Seriously.
To be perfectly honest, I do feel a little awkward when photting service trains on stations.
Oh well, that's life...

My "normal" mates know what I do. But I wear what I wear, I don't purposely make myself look veggy for my photographing needs.

I don't spot, but if I did I would still want to wear normal clothes. It would be nice to lose the perception of rail enthusaists as a little old men, with thick glasses, anoracks, beard, clipboard, thermos and old camera who finds everything terribly interesting...

And I should say that any time I've heard people abuse a trainspotter (from a distance, not too their face I should point out, usually from the train in fact), they have always fitted the stereotype. Might just be a coincodence, but younger trainspotters who look more "normal" seem to get less abuse.

Whatever I wear in the morning is what I wear when I go out on the railways doing stuff (photting, vegging, bashing etc), and I normally don't wear specific attire. I suppose the only thing that changes is whether I wear a coat or a jacket or just a t-shirt and that is wholly dependent on the weather.

Today when I was at Preston I wore jeans, long sleeve t-shirt, scarf and a coat. This is what I would normally wear when I go to college, go out with mates, doing other stuff.

Basically I wear whatever I choose to wear.

I don't find anything awkward about photting service trains at all, just because it isn't a loco. What you must remember is that locos were on service trains many years ago and people photted then as service trains.

It does re-ignite the snobbery debate but that's for another thread.

I don't agree with that. Groups such as Chavs abuse any kind of enthusiast. Spotter or Photographer, 16 or 46.
