I have been watching Francis Bourgeois's videos on Youtube and wonder, how does he know that those locomotives run on those days? If anyone knows please tell me, thank you.

If you check the Class 70 Workings thread, there is a list of active loco workings. Freightmaster timetables usually list booked traction and if you look at various groups.io pages like se-gen, there's usually advance working notices for the likes of DCR 56s etc.

The 70 thread has literally just been updated with yet another loco list. If you keep on top of this you can usually identify what's out and where

RealTimeTrains will tell you for some operators, and there are clues for other workings.

Also maybe he secretly makes use of the excellent TOPS requests threads on here… ;)

When you click on 'show train information' on RTT why does it sometimes show you what loco is operating the service and other times it doesn't? Must say in my experience it is very much a case of being lucky if it is showing.

Only some operators choose to share that information, mainly passenger TOC’s and GBRF. Sometimes there are clues within the other information provided though.

If you are talking about freight services, only GBRf allow loco numbers to be shown;
other FOCs are not willing to share that information with the general public, so you
need to use an alternative such as Railcam, which uses 'crowdsourced' info to provide
loco allocations for trains operated by DB, Colas, Freightliner, DRS, etc.
