How do I become a forum moderator?

I would love to be a forum moderator. How do I go about this please? I would do it entirely voluntarily.

There are lots of forums out there. On this forum, in the past when we have felt there is a requirement for additional staff, we have posted a message inviting expressions of interest for those who would like to be considered for the role of forum Moderator. Other forums may have different policies.
