Hi to all the Rail experts on here. I booked 6 tickets on the forums website a few days ago, Deansgate to Preston on an advance return- Then change at Preston with a 7 minute connection on Avanti to Glasgow.
The problem is - I have booked two of our party on the train an hour behind the rest of us, They are elderly and might struggle to make the connection. This is all my fault, I was wondering if it was possible to get them on our train?. I'm happy to pay a fee. We are leaving Deansgate at 9.51 and our friends an hour later, Were fine coming back as were traveling together. Outbound Tuesday 25th February and return 2 days later. Many thanks in advance.

Advance tickets

If you have an Advance ticket and need to change the day or time that you are travelling, you can amend your ticket right up to the time your journey is due to begin. You may be charged £10 to change each ticket and you will also be charged for any difference in price between your ticket and the new ticket.

Advance tickets are non-refundable, unless your train is delayed or cancelled and you choose not to travel.

See the Advance ticket terms and conditions for full information.
You need to contact the seller of the original tickets.

There is no such thing as an “advance return”, by the way, presumably you have two advance (single) tickets in opposite directions.

Contact Trainsplit directly. They will advise you, but it is straightforward apart from costing the admin fee (IIRC - I had to do this a month ago) and any difference in fare.

I've managed to locate the booking you're referring to.

If you make a new booking for the 2 passengers with the wrong outbound journey and email in to TrainSplit customer support with the original and replacement booking references, they'll be able to refund the value of whichever sets of tickets are cheaper, minus a £5 admin fee.

You just need to rebook the outbound portion of the journey for 2 passengers on the itinerary leaving at 0951; the inbound journey doesn't need to be replaced as it's already correct.

Thank you so much for the advice, I am doing this right now.

Seven minutes is cutting it fine at Preston. Minimum connection time there is given as eight minutes, on BR Times, so possibly no compensation if you miss the connection.
Northern are usually 2-3 minutes late in at the best of times. That's if it isn't cancelled!
The subway between platforms 1/2 and 3/4 has less steps than the footbridge. You will have to transfer from p1 to p3 most likely.

No sales site would book an illegal connection on a through itinerary. I wonder if the OP is looking at the departure time of the inbound service rather than the arrival time which might well be one minute earlier?

for example

Preston has a minumum connection time of 8 minutes as observed

The original poster’s times seem a bit wonky but it looks like it’s a valid connection.
