How could reliability on the North London/Mildmay line be improved?

North London or Mildmay line
So yesterday just before 3pm, 2L36 (Clapham - Stratford) went pop at Canonbury with an Overhead Wires problem, and the line was shut until around 7pm, destroying the entire evening peak.

Earlier this year we had a signalling systems failure that went on from about 11:00 to 19:00, again causing a lot of people problems.

In between these two major incidents, there have been countless numbers of less major problems keeping the line shut for several hours at a time. Overhead wire problems, signal failures and train issues seem to be the most common. Indeed, from my looking at the National Rail Enquiries (NRE) website, the NLL is the line most commonly disrupted, although other issues such as GWR and Northern’s Sunday crewing issues are usually above it on the list.

On a line which is so important to both passenger and freight trains, I am surprised at the number of times this line is suspended. Is there anything that could be done to improve the reliability of the line, and therefore the passenger and many freight trains that pass along it?

I also wonder if the poor reliability is due to much of the infrastructure dating back to a time when the passenger service was much less frequent and struggles to cope with the (at least) 8tph service now?
