Observing the wiki picture it has a sign, a totem, a shelter, a bench and lighting! I'm sure one station round there has no calls after dark due to no lighting? Is it New Clee? I think Berney Arms has no lights either?

There are a fair few stations whose only 'facilities' are a rudimentary shelter and bench, nameboards and lighting. So very common I think is the answer.

There won't be too many left without at least a help point nowadays (all Welsh stations have them and a CIS I believe; and all FGW stations have them), but there'll still be a couple in the back of beyond (e.g. Bentham) and a fair few once you hit the wilds of Scotland.

Erm, I passed through Bentham yesterday, and it has an LED screen thing with various flashing messages, a TV screen and what looks like an indoor waiting room!

I was trying to fit within the criteria set out in the OP - according to NRE Bentham has nowt, but Clapham and Giggleswick have a 'help point' (in reality a phone connected to the signal box to obtain real time info, but still counts I guess).

I believe a lot of Northern stations now have either (or a combination of) announcements, CISs or help points; so I doubt hoards remain, certainly not as many as 5 years ago.

Actually NRE says Bentham has a payphone in the shelter. And station buildings, although they're not public. Link

Bearing in mind that Stations Made Easy is often out of date, particularly with regards to relatively minor things like Northern installing display screens.

Until quite recently Lostock Gralam was fairly grim with no facilities on the Manchester bound platform, situation has been improved last time i was there last year however.

Might well have done but Goxhill is not untypical, even Habrough relatively more important has no screens, due largely to there being no cable provision in the vicinity although there is still a human presence at Goxhill Signal Box.

If it‘s got a waiting shelter and a bench, that‘s fairly common for a small unstaffed station. Admittedly the installation of digital displays etc seems to have increased a lot over the last five years.

Nor is Goxhill an altogether cheerless place to await the next train, it is at least close to the village amenities: shop, chippy etc. is in a good state of repair and of tidy appearance. There are probably many substantially worse places to spend the odd fifteen or twenty miniutes from time to time. Perhaps the most dire in the area has already been mentioned: New Clee.

The friends of Betntham Station say it does have a waiting room, which is concurrent with my observations. Still no CIS though which is poor.

I think that N.R. refer to these as Departure Screens although I would not dismiss the possibility of inconsistencies in description from place to place.

Presumably little thought had been given as to what form an abbreviation of this particular appellation would take. However N.R. are more specific as P.I.S. is a general heading after which specific items are listed eg. Departure Screens, Announcements, Arrival Screens etc.

Surely the worst station in Great Britain for facilities is Falls of Cruachan. No station lighting & no shelter.

It's probably not like it usually needs more than two benches, a bin and a couple of notice boards, but I wouldn't fancy waiting there (perhaps in the snow) for the last train on a winter's day, which was meant to call before dusk... but the light starts to fade... and it hasn't turned up yet...

I thought it was daylight hours only, but services ran in some of the winter months. Some searching does indeed prove I was wrong. Oops! It would still be unfortunate to be standing there on a rather wet "summer" evening, worrying about getting stranded. You know what I mean, I think!

Clearly, there probably is, now, so Stations Made Easy is instead Stations Made Misleading... again...

Still, it's pretty spartan, albeit scenic (if the photos are accurate). One wonders why, if you go to the bother of installing a shelter and benches, a solar-powered light of some sort wouldn't be appropriate (in case a summertime train is delayed until after dark, perhaps).

Falls of Cruachan did have a shelter in July this year. I'm racking my brains as you'd think it'd be somewhere remote but in deepest, darkest Scotland and Wales, there was a shelter at least, although I think Cynghordy was under-going works at the time I was there so temporarily might have been without anything. I would nominate Thornton Abbey and Rawcliffe as my barren (facility-wise) stations.

There are sometimes facilities. Last time I passed Reddish South (think it was 27th Sept 2013), the 'Friends of Reddish South' had erected a gazebo on the platform. There was a bit of a party atmosphere going on for the brief moment the train stopped there.
