how can i live and work in the UK?

Hello yall my name is Bryant and i been on the forums for sometime but not a very long time.

I been thinking of moving from the United States to the UK for sometime since i want to work for the Transportation industry but the problem is here in the United States i been rejected with many Transportation companies, including here in the United States which is Amtrak which i had one interview so far but never made it passed that because they rejected me, Delta has not called me back, Virgin America has not called me back, CSX rejected me.

I applied for British Airways and they too rejected me greatly which it broke my heart about it because i hold that airline highly including virgin atlantic airways as well.

I am currently 26 years old white hispanic currently living in Miami, Florida, and i realised that i need a future if i don't get a career in which i enjoy doing i cannot be somebody that i want to be, i want to travel the world, be in a wonderful career and i want to be an example for others to follow i want to make my goals a reality.

I know this post is long but its something i am trying to accomplish, what is it that i have to do to be able to live in the UK since its the closest country that i can think of that speaks English besides the United States or is there others? also the fact i can be in Europe which is one of my most favorite contienants next to Asia. What are the requirements for me to be a UK citizen?

First of all, if you are serious about coming to the United Kingdom, I think the best think for you to do would be to have a look on the website of the UK Border Agency, where you can find out if you meet the requirements. I did think about copying some information off the website, but as I don't really know anything about you, you'd probably be better of looking yourself.

Secondly, regarding your failed applications to BA and Virgin Atlantic, I daresay that this is only to be expected in the present economic climate. Companies such as the ones you have applied for a big ticket names, hence the list of applicants is going to be very long indeed.

I don't work in the transport industry, so I'm not going to offer any advice on applying for jobs on the British Railway (I would rather leave that to the rail staff!) however, I'm sure someone will be happy to help you. Nonetheless, as the post below me has just echoed, coming here to work is a big step, so keep your options open.

You would need to find a company which will sponsor you and you generally need to be fairly experienced in your field as there are minimum salary requirements which need to be fulfilled in order to apply for a visa. As you are struggling to find something in the US, I think looking at the UK is making life even harder, but its up to you. Immigrating is by far not the easiest thing in the world, so if you are thinking about it, you may need to consider more than just the language of your prospective new home.

It seems in the airline industry it may be prudent to start off with a Low Cost carrier (or a Regional in the states) to build up experience. Plus you have the American hub at MIA who will have a lot of vacancies rotating through.

The UK is not in a stronger economic position than the US by the judgement of most analysts. While the UK has lower unemployment rates than some members of the Eurozone in continental Europe, the situation is far from rosy.

A career at the airlines you mention is already highly sought after by UK citizens and long-term residents. Employers in the UK are under no obligation to hire non-EU citizens (quite the opposite in fact), and many of them won't unless you can prove that you offer them something unique.

If you're serious about career in aviation, have you thought about joining one of the airlines based in the Middle East? Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways hire enthusiastic people from around the world and will sort your visa out and offer you accommodation in the UAE/Qatar. You get to see the world as their networks are extremely extensive! If I was in your position, I would take a serious look at them.

Thank you everybody, yeah its getting rough i currently work in retail but i need to make my life better, Retail is not for me, i want to be in the Travel and Transportation industry thats where my heart is at.

Me and my mom we visited a school near the airport in Miami called George T Baker for Aviation Mechanics and i been thinking it could be my best shot since my mother has always told me i need a license to be somebody like a meat cutter, a pilot, an asteronaut, things like that so its something i am thinking of the moment.

I always wanted to come to Europe espically the UK as well, you guys are fortunate that you have alot of history and culture, and i am very interigued by it also the fact that the UK along with Europe is going thru alot of positive changes and excitements that is making me feel amazed.

But thank you for the tip for the Emiretes Airlines, and Qatar Airlines and such i will look into them.
