With the ECML closed between London and Peterborough, just how busy is the MML likely to be today, please?
I was planning to travel to London returning around 2000h. Will MML trains to Nottingham be standing?

Extremely busy.

The EMR website is warning of queues of up to two hours at St Pancras.

I was at st pancras at 07.00 and the queue was starting then. It was horrendous yesterday and not everyone could get on the train I was on . You might be ok by 20.00 although I can't be certain.

Martin Lewis was on one of their services yesterday, overcrowded, short of coaches and only one working toilet according to his tweet!

Dear @EastMidRailway this train (Ldn - Sheffield) is disgraceful. Every seat taken, every standing space taken, scores sitting in mid train corridors so I guess 500 people on it and ONLY ONE WORKING TOILET at one end, so people must crawl over each 100s to reach it. It's degrading, like something from the 19th century.

PS and as I walked to the loo, apologising profusely, a number of people asked me to say something publicly about it. One of the reasons for this tweet.

Thameslink to Bedford was much busier yesterday as well (but 12 cars 700s eat passengers) - As were the road from Welwyn Garden City - St Albans. Not sure how many of these extra passengers were refugees from close by stations on the ECML.

Story now on BBC News see here:

East Midlands Railway has apologised to broadcaster Martin Lewis after he complained about his overcrowded train on social media.
The consumer affairs expert took to X, formerly Twitter, to describe conditions on the London to Sheffield service on Monday afternoon.
He said all seats and standing spaces were taken and there was only one working toilet.

It's now being reported that a road vehicle has hit a bridge between London and Luton causing delays. I'd avoid the MML today if you can.

It's now saying no trains are currently running northbound so not good.
