Currently on 2 car EMR Nottingham-Liverpool. Standing room only, but if it were 4 car, as it should be, it would be fine.

Use of 2-cars on that section has been a common occurrence throughout the day for several weeks now with passengers left behind & the delay that brings at stations particularly along the Castlefield corridor.

I wonder what train John Redwood's travelling on. Not the 10:49 Leeds to Carlisle today which was for carriages and very well loaded.
It shouldn't surprise us though. We all know that John Redwood's from Mars
(for youngsters that was a topical reference to his leadership challenge against John Major a few years ago).
He needs to come to Wales where he will see trains full and standing day in and day out and passengers left behind at times, even the 2 Car Conwy Valley yesterday reported as F & S. He may be too embarrassed to visit Wales following his stint as Welsh Minister in the Major Government and his gurning pretending to sing the Welsh National Anthem at Conference

Same this morning on a Northern Leeds to Nottingham train. Quite full on leaving Leeds but people standing between Barnsley and Meadowhall. Very bad overcrowding south of Sheffield with passengers boarding at Alfreton, Langley Mill and Ilkeston not having a chance of a seat. Guard apologising for the severe overcrowding and encouraging people to complain. Surely this is one of Northerns more important routes which ought to have more than a 2 car train. I noticed the train departing Leeds a few minutes before to Castleford and Knottingley had 4 carriages and was almost empty.
Most trains on the Robin Hood Line delayed today with southbound trains running around 15 minutes late. The reason being given for this is overcrowding. I’m not surprised, as pre covid even with 2tph it was standing room only south of Mansfield on Saturdays. Now EMR are just running once an hour with 2 car trains.

As per the above, currently 19 "train formation updates" i.e. 2 coaches not 3 on the TfW Journey Planner. I'm pretty sure there were around 30 when I looked this morning. Just come back from Manchester on the 1230 2-coach, where it was pretty much full from Piccadilly and standing from Stockport. We passed a 3-coach in the sidings at Shrewsbury apparently doing nothing, while people were having to cram like sardines onto the pathetic provision for a bank holiday weekend Saturday.

Had one of my busiest trains for a while this morning from Basingstoke towards London around 09;35.
What didn't help is that the sprinters from Exeter/Castle Cary terminated at Basingstoke so it had all those passengers boarding as well.
When at Clapham I did see a few Southern metro services looking quite busy, all were single units.

Even 1816 Swansea to Shrewsbury via HEART OF WALES reported as full and standing and delayed out in the sticks at Cynghordy by disturbance. Single 153.

Is it about time Bank Holidays were scrapped? (Off topic but related for obvious reasons.)
London was absolutely packed today.
First time since Covid ive not been able to get on a tube and had to wait for the next one.
Some Southern services too today have been standing room only (but thats down to Epsoms being only 5 coaches today ), but my 2x707 from Waterloo also had a heavy load.
Doing the tourist thing in Leicester Sq, Convent Garden, Piccadilly Circus area, then boat to Greenwich… it was definitely back to normal.. huge queues, crowds etc.. the twist.. just about everyone weve seen today was British… no Europeans, Americans or Asian tourists..
Which begs the question, how busy will it be next weekend, once school holidays are over ?

Less so I suspect. I went through London on Thursday and the passengers almost all looked like leisure travellers. Almost no suits to be seen anywhere.

The 18:02 Hazel Grove to Blackpool North wasn't busy in the front set of a 6-car 331
The 23:17 Manchester Piccadilly to Hazel Grove wasn't busy either despite the previous train to Levenshulme and Heaton Chapel having been cancelled.
Manchester itself was very busy tonight due to Pride and the usual weekend revellers. I danced my socks off in Revolución de Cuba which was nice as it was my first time in a bona fide club since March 2020 even if I didn't stay late. Lots of fit women on a side note even though I'm now officially taken!

TfW not listed any Train Formation Updates today, they must read this thread and realised how bad it looked yesterday. Still got 23 cancellations and 39 "Train Service Updates" which are largely starting or ending short due to "resource availability".
Oh, just checked a random one and the 1020 Holyhead to Cardiff is full and standing from Bangor. That'll be fun

First actual London Northwestern train all the way to the Midlands out of Euston (buses in for part of the journey earlier). Eight coaches but horribly over-crowded - l'd say 130% of capacity. Thankfully l got a seat and have a mask firmly on. Ideally l'd have waited but the next train was an hour later and l need to be somewhere by a particular time.

I do hope it's just a Bank Holiday weekend thing, I've got a friend booked on that very train on Tuesday.

North Wales coast frequency is hourly at best on Sundays with a late start, should be half hourly or, if they are short of train crew then trains should be 6 cars.

They used to couple two 2-coach 158s (I think?) together on some routes if they expected them to be busy. Haven't seen that done for ages.

09:30 Southampton - Brighton, busy from Fareham & Havant, emptied out at Chichester. Starting getting very busy the closer it got, think it left passengers behind at Portslade
Eastbourne services reasonably busy, although the services I had were both low density 377/1s which probably helps spread due to more airline style seats.
17:00 Brighton - Southampton, wedged out from Brighton (from my seat in the front coach, all seats looked like they were taken, even First Class with a good 15 standing in the vestibule area, emptied out as the journey went on with the last standing passenger leaving at Goring by Sea (at that point there were spare seats)
A common cause to these services were all single units, surely Southern have spare units to boost the Brighton - Eastbournes to be doubles, although doubles to Southampton will cause issues with platform space [as the Southern sits there for a while with a Portsmouth stopper on the "B" end, but those Portsmouth stoppers were 8 coaches today so I think were shunting via the loop outside the station]

2N37 09:08 EMT Crewe to Newark Castle yesterday (28/08) was a 2 car 156 and was absolutely rammed by Stoke.
Derby v Forest game at Pride Park with a 12:30 kick-off time was on and EMT should be ashamed of themselves. I'd also forgotten how horribibly slow and noisy these old crates are, the sooner they are scrapped the better.

Meanwhile Greater Anglia ran half hourly extras from Liverpool Street to Bishop's Stortford all day with pairs of 317s. Presume this was in connection with the Spurs match? Good effort though. Required 10 units and no doubt several drivers.

Whilst waiting at Crewe on Saturday evening the 1V64 Picadilly to Cardiff turned-up consisting of a 150 and 2x 153's. Is that really acceptable for a 3h 40m service?
