A friend has inadvertently booked tickets on the wrong coach journey to London and I'm having them. I'm going to London somehow!

However. The tickets are from Scarborough with National Express. I'm in Leeds/York. Would we be able to join part way using that ticket? I know trains are a bit strange with joining part way, so I'm not sure what the coaches are like...

Secondly, I'm looking for hotels within London that are within extremely easy distance from Victoria coach station - I'm assuming it's part of Victoria station complex? Does anyone have any ideas? Three nights, two adults, not really willing to go above £120 (for the whole period), but will for a four star if there are any! That last statement is truly contradictory, I know - that's why I'm here asking for any ideas!

It's ~300 yards down the road

For that budget I think you've no chance (at least on weekdays, I've never looked for the weekend). That's the ballpark cost of Travelodge or Premier Inn at East Croydon (20 mins away by train) if you're lucky - which is what I tend to do when working near Victoria

I realise as I say that my statement is contradictory. I'm well aware that it is difficult to find 'cheap' prices in central London.

Found a hotel down in Crystal Palace and Edmonton - I'm sure Crystal Palace is within easy access to Victoria, but I may be wrong!

Fairly easy to get to aye, direct trains at least twice an hour and IIRC a journey time of approx. 25 minutes from Viccy. East Croydon on a fast train is around 20 minutes and much more frequent!

As for NatEx, I think you can join later in the journey but only if there's seats going. Technically you surrender your seat if you don't use it on the booked leg, so someone can pay on the day and claim it! If it's a FunFare I'm fairly certain you can only use it on the booked journey and not board later or whatever. This definitely applies to journeys via airports, but you MAY be OK. Check the T&Cs carefully I would, print the ticket off and read the small print. If all else fails, get in touch with NatEx!

Getting a hotel anywhere near Victoria at short notice for 120 quid is nigh on impossible regardless of the day of the week. Hostels yeah you probably could, but who wants that?!

Good luck!

OK, if you're considering Crystal Palace then "within extremely easy distance" means a short/frequent train journey within the oyster zones, rather than walking distance... this being the case £120/3 nights is probably doable.

I average £35/night in East Croydon. Booking well in advance you can get Travelodge or sometimes Premier Inn for that price - at shot notice you're looking at Easyhotel (very basic - not even a kettle or a TV).

Sometimes the "Crystal Palace" TL is cheaper than the East Croydon one, but you should be aware that the nearest station isn't Crystal Palace, but Penge East (and even that isn't particularly near). Bromley can be cheaper still but is a long way from a useful train station so I'd avoid.

Bromley TL is fine from North but that's not very convenient for Vic. It's walkable TO Shortlands but not so good back - Swan Hill is what it says... Croydon (or Whyteleafe, but that's much further out) are much better.

Look around Sussex Gardens , Paddington area - wide choice of old school B+B type hotels and an easy journey by bus or tube to Victoria. (actually - you can walk it in about 40 mins via Hyde Park etc)

Thank you for all the replies.

Managed to find a 'secret hotel' booking for £200. Checked Trivago and through the hotel that I 'think' is the secret hotel and prices are upward of £390+ for three days. So though it's slightly more than I was expecting I'm more than happy to pay for it.

Shoreditch, so hopefully not too far!

Looks like you are sorted but Holiday Inn Express - Vauxhall Nine Elms is probably a good bet.

I've stayed there about four times this year and never paid more than £135 and that was booked on the day. A quick look at tonight it's only £105 and is a quick tube ride from Victoria. It's at 87 South Lambeth Rd SW8 1RN

Unfortunately i'm staying for three nights. The quotes I was given this morning were £117, which gives me £351 in total. I'm still reeling a little at there being nothing below £160!
