Horse on railway line

You certainly don't hear of many horses on the line. If there are animals on the line it seems to be cows or sheep normally. Although i think the strangest one i have heard of is llamas on the line between Hildenborough and Sevenoaks in Kent a few years ago.

Llamas are not unknown. Ditto Alpacas. Had an Ostrich on the line on the East Suffolk once. Also a dinosaur on the line on the GEML, albeit a large fluffy stuffed one.

They usually buy the pony in late spring as vendor says its food and lodgings doesn't cost much (true in spring and summer). Then around November when it likely needs stabling they find that that cheap pony they bought costs quite a chunk of money each week. Shoeing, vets bills and insurance to top it off!

Sounds like an expensive version of Puppies At Xmas (tm) - we've got a rescue who was one of them. Interestingly, when Harry Potter was a thing (well, a bigger thing than it is now), certain parents of a certain wage bracket did the same thing with owls... cue tons of abandoned owls when said family realised that maybe a nocturnal bird of prey wasn't the best pet for little Tarquin, aged 7 3/4..

Peepl iz stoopid when it comes to animals, though I doubt that any serious horse owner would willfully let their animals wander onto railway line deliberately..

There was a circus in Cardiff just after Christmas in 1979, or thereabouts, and following a sustained period of torrential rail, the River Taf burst it's banks and allowed some camels to escape and run wild. Some found their way somehow to appear on the line around and encroached onto the tracks on Platform 7 at Cardiff Central. At that time, there was an area on the south side of Platform 7 where the old Riverside Platforms were still located and used to stable Parcel vans and it must have been via this route they gained access..

I was also wondering wouldn’t the owner be changed with trespassing on the railway. I couldn’t imagine network rail allowing him on the railway especially without a high vis jacket on

Usually if there's a block on Network Rail are more than happy to allow the owner, farmer, shepherd etc on to clear the animals away as they're likely to be far better at it than the local MOM.

They're thinly stretched at major stations considering what they're up against as events at Manchester Victoria shiwed recently. Too busy dealing with low level disorder offences and RPIs who want their help dealing with passengers.

So doing their jobs then.

Because only humans can Trespass.
