Horrible liveries

Are there any liveries you especially dislike, past or present?

I personally hate the old National Express Scotrail livery.

I find Southeastern's livery very bland and boring, as well as the old NSE livery.
Finally, I despise the old Central Trains livery. Silverlink was even worse.

I hated the NXEC livery probably because it was the end of the stylish GNER livery. I like the VTEC livery. Suits the IC225 very well, but I think it would look odd on a more modern train (which I guess why the rendering of a class 801 on their website uses a different livery).

I preferred the NX ScotRail livery to the original First ScotRail livery but I think they made the right move going to a fixed brand that doesn't change.

It took me a while to get used to the current FirstGroup style liveries all these will soon be disappearing.

One has to be the worst although I have no idea what a Greater Anglia train is supposed to look like (I think it's plain white).

I actually really like the Scotrail Barbie livery, and Dynamic Lines looks great on Class 180s. The new livery for the Class 350s is nice too.

Greater Anglia seems to have a lot of different liveries, but I think its main one is white with red doors. You can certainly see it on Sprinters.

I do like Dynamic Lines, shame we will be losing it, and shame they never saw fit to use it on First buses. OTOH, the old pinky-purply-F-in-circle livery was insipid.

I really hated the Scotrail Barbie livery, and the Silverlink lime green made my eyes bleed too.

The Virgin EC swoosh is pretty terrible too, it looks like Ray Stenning chucked it out and knocked off early.

I think Colas' livery sits well on the 37s and 56s, personally - but I can understand why some wouldn't like it.

I hate Northern's livery. Can look okay when freshly washed/painted but looks drab and horrible otherwise.

I also think Freightliner's livery uses too much yellow. I'd like to see them use British Racing Green with white or something, with yellow confined to warning panels.

I know a lot of people dislike West Coast maroon... Personally I think that whilst it's not that interesting, it is at least a more classic colour.

One thing that fascinates me is the way an intelligently designed livery can completely change the look of a vehicle - compare the BR Blue 101, which to my eye just makes the unit look dated:

I know the second one's not real, but by changing the shape of the yellow panel and bringing the base colour round onto the front, it transforms the whole look of the unit!

I didn't like the First livery on the Class 175 units - I don't think it suited them at all. In my opinion the 175s look much smarter in the current Arriva Trains Wales livery but I think they'd look even smarter in the ATW two tone blue livery

At Cambridge we've had FCC "City Lights" and one "rainbow". Now all the units, other than XC, are going white, with the AGA & GN 317s even in the same livery (different doors). Bring back garish!

I'm not a fan of turquoise-and-vomit Arriva livery but I agree the two-tone blue "Express" livery looks nice.

Indeed.Grey and white liveries tend to look unfinished to me. Unfortunately they seem to have been in vogue of late.

Connex had some VEP's going around in plain grey that they didn't get round to finishing. The completed units didn't look much better, or indeed different.

I feel that GA's Sprinters are well suited to their livery, but not many similar ones work.

The original Connex yellow and white, 'One' rainbows and SPT carmine and cream are three of my personal least favourites. I just don't think any of them sat well on the 314/315/508 units.

The current Merseyrail livery is really poor too. Far too much like a glorified advertising livery to my mind and having different colours on each side is strange. It is terrible at withstanding graffiti attacks too - arguably even worse than the previous livery, and that was bad enough!

Agreed - awful livery - but then look who chose it ? - not railway professionals shall we say - an uplift on boring and faded NSE was probably welcome - but a rich red / green would have been better than "Cadbury" livery.

Liked the original FNW blue and gold star - + the original WAGN livery on the 317's. Could be done.

Not the whole livery, but the doors on Virgin West Coast trains (and VXC when they had iit) I really dislike. It just doesn't seem to fit the rest of the train, and, despite not ever having used them nor see any use of them in the foreseeable future, I hope VTEC doesn't follow suit.

I don't like "Greater Anglia" livery. Also I don't like: National Express, East Coast, Stagecoach Red, BR's Alphaline, South Eastern, The future GWR Green on IEP, DBS Silver, Advert liveries, and London's DLR liveries.

I liked Central Trains, Intercity Swallow, Network Northwest, Enterprise, Northern Spirit, GNER, the old Merseyrail livery.

Sadly nowadays everything's First, Stagecoach, or too much white or silver.

They may well not be (other than by grandfather rights) - it's quite an old livery. The proposed VTEC IEP livery uses red doors instead.
