hornby 67 uses two rubber tyres.

i just bought one of these and i was surprised to see it had 1 traction tyre fitted to 1 of the 4 wheels at each end, despite it being 8 wheel drive and it doesn't need them. hornby class 60 uses 12 wheel drive and it's metal wheels all round and is a stronger puller than most will imagine. rubber puts annoying deposits on the track and i'm looking for some spare wheels to replace the two axles that have the rubber tyres. dead easy to change. just one screw on the bogie.

Are you sure it drives on all 8 wheels? I thought the class 67 was an old Lima model that Hornby updated with a new smoother running motor bogie at one end, with a trailing bogie at the other. Initially when Hornby re-rigged them they didn't have traction tyres but were found to be a bit short of pulling power, so they they reintorduced traction tyres.

yes there are gearwheels on all four axles and there are no freely running wheels. same centre motor system as most Bachmann use. it has one heck of a pull to it and does not need those dratted tyres

They must have improved things since I last saw one then. There are companies that specialise in direct replacement wheelsets for 00 diesels, but being an N gauger I can't remember their name. They were mentioned in a recent model rail, I'll have a look.

i saw a 67 at a toy fayre as i was unsure myself about what drive system it actually had. the seller took it from the box and used his fingers to try and turn the wheels and they were solid both ends (worm gear preventing rotation) so i knew they were 8 wheel drive. if i'd asked for a closer look i'd have then realised it had the rubber tyres!!!!

Ultrascale is the company I was probably thinking of. Apparently Hornby also do both tyres and untyred wheelsets as spare parts.

Unlike most other Lima diesels, the Lima 67 has all wheel drive. Hornby have done very little to the 67 model (I think the DCC socket is the only improvement)

it's geared oddly too considering it's supposed to be a fast engine. slowest loco i've got at a given setting on the speed knob. needs almost full setting for a 125mph speed run!
