Horn for 66...

For the class 66, I made a new horn sound from a video I took at Water Orton. Ive converted the sounds to WAV files and have successfully got two tones to work on the + and enter keys. However as the current 66 doesnt have an extra horn sound on the dash key unlike some trains im wondering how to activate the key and add another horn sound on to that?
The sound is at the end of this video if you want to hear it, its just been split on each tone.

Thank god for that; the current 66 horn is pathetic, it's about half a second long!

@adamp: to use the dash key for another horn sound, add a new line Music = filename.wav in the in the [Horn] section of the sound.cfg file, where filename.wav is obviously changed to whatever the actual name of your file is. Keep in mind that the sound will be played continuously until the player presses the key a second time.

Thanks for that, one problem though what programme do i use to open the sound file? the extension is not recognised on my pc.

BVE configuration files can be edited in a plain old text editor such as Notepad or Wordpad. My personal favorite is Notepad++.

Ive added them on now, would it be a good idea to ask the creator of the 66 (trainsimcentral?) if they dont mind me replacing their sounds..?

You're OK to modify things for your own personal use ONLY.

It's when you start distributing modified things that you need permission.

Yeah. It's hardly as if anyone can deny you permission to replace a file or two on your own computer

Laws these days may be ludicrous but we haven't quite got to the point of being told what we can and can't do every minute of the day :P

Not exactilly - You can upload it if you use none of the origional authors work in the installer/compressed file. The only thing that would need permission in this case would be sound.cfg, but it can either be re-written or released without the 3rd horn...

No. Not if other peoples work hasn't been used...

I agree, I think you should be able to download the horns separately and add them in, backing up the original file.

It's like MSTS, you can legally download replaceable horn sounds and not interfere with the original model or sounds

Actually if you give the wav file the same name as the original one there is no need to have permission from anyone if you have not altered the sound.cfg file.

Just rename or delete the old ones first!

Also you can also put your horns split up to work separately on the other two buttons.

Same again if you give the .wav files the same name as the old one's you do not need permission to release them!

In fact you could change all the sounds in a bve train and so long as they have the same name!

You have not altered any one's work, permission is only required if you do.

Though I would actually back up the originals (renaming it xxxOLD.wav) in case the new ones don't work for some reason or if after a while you prefer the original ones that came with the train
