How busy are the Hope Valley Line services on a Sunday morning? Myself and 3 others are planning to catch the 09:39 Romiley to Edale but not if it's busy. I take it this service is just a solitary pacer ?

Oddly enough I caught a train around that time last September from Romiley to Edale. 2 car pacer, had to stand. No doubt if you had arranged for all the passengers to squash up on every seat those standing would have been able to sit down, but for me standing was OK.

Weather wasn’t special, it rained in Edale, and a dog society were taking all their hounds for a train ride too so a dozen dogs and owners helped fill the train.

Of course that’s just a one Sunday snapshot, someone more local may have better information.

They used to be very busy when TPE had 2 hour gaps on Sunday mornings but not so bad now. On a miserable day passenger numbers can be in single figures however on a nice day can be almost full.

Double 142 unit was in the platform at Piccadilly this morning meant to be working a Hope Valley stopper however had been cancelled due to no driver, which is a *shock*.

I saw a double Pacer operating on the route last Sunday, but today 4 return workings were cancelled due to lack of drivers. One 2 car Pacer certainly got through and was well, but not over, loaded when I saw it about 10.20 at Dore. I gather those waiting for the cancelled previous train were - rather irritated by its absence! They either returned to their cars and drove, went home, or phoned a friend to get them where they wanted to go. None had waited for the later train, so that was a big fail for rail.

Unfortunately you cannot rely on Hope Valley Sunday services at present. Advance notice is not being given and you have to check immediately before the train is due (maybe even after!) to leave Manchester, and track it to see if it's the train due to return from Sheffield!
