Maybe they were getting the train from somewhere other than Chester? I live in Hampshire but I once boarded a train in Inverness....
When you're leaving from your local town going to the nearest airport you would expect to be leaving from that local station?

It's set in a fictional suburb of Chester. Therefore their nearest station might not be Chester itself. Anyway, your average viewer will see the character getting onto a train enroute to catch a flight. They really won't be too fussed about the type of train, the station used and if the line really does go to an airport in real life. Eastenders, for example, is set in East London but you still generally only see "Walford East". They don't even use a real station for filming - let alone a real station name.
Not read through that thread in full, but I imagine it's got something to do with it being a short television advert. Hollyoaks is an ongoing series where the train is not the kind of focal point?
No I was just pointing out how they got on a Pacer which turns into a 350...

I doubt the average viewer of Hollyoaks cares about what trains they are presented with!

I always find this, everytime I watch things on the tele, always look at the trains.
The film Greet Street, went from FGW HST to a 180 to a 321

Exactly, I just notice what's on the show/film.
I remember watching one film where they were on a BR blue electric (looked like a 310) at St Pancras, which then ended up on the WCML.
Chester station may be a) busy b) too expensive to film in
Also.......IIRC it is set (though not filmed) in suburban chester, so maybe they were making out like it was a suburban station?
Either way, it is fictional so can be set anywhere... TV shows are notorious for making one location into another because it fits the look / image / filming schedule / budget better than the real place.

A 310 at STP?! That'd be a first. Im almost positive 310s never worked out of STP. 310s were always WCML suburban units (ie, ex' Silverlink County' services, until the 321s arrived). I don't think they even worked out of KGX on the GN services, as they were 312s. The 310s then, of course moved up to Birmingham, and some on LTS- but never STP!
The only ever plain blue units to work out of STP, were the 'bedpan' DMUs.Anyway, the Holyoakes faux pas seems like a classic lack of continuity, and just shows a lack of interest by the research department. OK, most of the viewers probably don't care, but even 'non-cranks', who pay attention to detail will notice things such as that. OK, I admit not getting on a Chester station is explainable, ie, they may have got on at Helsby for example, which isn't that far from Chester, but if it clearly showed them getting on say a 'blue train', anyone with a bit of common sense would find it stupid if they then alighted from a 'purple/pink train'!

I think it was just for the movie shoot. Of course not for regular traffic. Could of been a 312 though.
I must admit I did notice this but maybe whichever station they filmed them getting on the train didn't have a good spot to film on the footbridge while they wanted a footbridge shot. If they waste money having a helicopter to film a train leaving they'll be no money for sexy girls like roxanne mckee.
As said before, they don't care when it comes to continuity. Would be easy enough to go on the TPE network and board a 185 then alight from another, or even the same 185. At least they'd (most probably) have the same colours! A lot of avid TV fans do notice things like this and enjoy spotting continuity errors, so a pacer to a 350 would have been easily noticed!

Much like how Casualty showed a dad and his daughter going for a bus the week before last (only happened to see it due to having tea in the same room as it was on in). The bus turns up and it is clearly not in London. The double-decker was not red, was going to Centre (I've forgotten the route number, might have been 54) which is most definately not anywhere near London and the operator's website on the side of the chocolate and cream livery was www.dabus.co.uk (the operator is actually abus, obviously this couldn't be shown)...
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight. The problem with Casualty is that it is always so obvious it's not in London it's stupid. Not that I'm aware of where this part of Bristol is mind, did anyone else see it and know where it was?
