Holiday Special trains

I was thinking about what routes could work for Holiday Special only trains if combined with extra things such as a place to stay during the week.
Now this is more to the wild side of speculation but with costs rising and holidays harder to come by combining travel and accommodation could help people get away and the seaside communities who might struggle.

One I thought of was a Sheffield-Rotherham-Doncaster-Scunthorpe-Cleethorpes route or a Bradford-Leeds-Hull-Bridlington-Filey-Scarborough service

BR gave up booking holidays decades ago. With the internet making it so much easier to book guest house and hotels direct I doubt that any company would wish to dabble in such things as the admin overheads would make it more expensive that the customers making their own arrangements.

If this was to happen, go the whole hog and have SC ex-carriages in sidings next to stations. I remember when there were some (one?) at Gullane, overlapping the station's closure.

More specials to Brighton in the Summer. The poor faces of the hordes of passengers on platform 13 on Clapham Junction when they learnt their next Brighton train will be...never. Because they have to change at East Croydon now.

I think from an enthusiasts perspective its certainly more interesting having a railway that has more than just the standard timetabled trains

Bradford-Leeds-Hull-Bridlington-Filey-Scarborough service

The Bridlington - Hunmanby single track section together with Filey - Seamer limits what you could add, at the moment its 1tph each way 7 days a week which normally runs OK, but any late running knocks on to the service running the other way and recovery is a problem. I am not saying you couldn't thread another service through, but timing has to be spot on as trains take approx 18 mins Bridlington - Hunmanby, and 3 x 18 = 54 which only leaves 2 min per service 'float'

Last summer Northern ran a 'day out special' on Sunday mornings starting at Hull and just calling Brid, Filey and Scarborough, but I think this was a stock move repurposed as an extra during the summer.

It’s usually cheaper to go abroad somewhere hot and sunny (if you aren’t too particular) than it is to go to somewhere in this country on holiday.

How about one, it could start in York and pass through the industrial belt of the Pennines on its way to Manchester.

I was thinking York -> Leeds -> Bradford -> Halifax - > Hebden Bridge -> Blackburn -> Preston -> Blackpool as a suitable route

Well considering taking three minutes on Jet2 I can find a week B&B in Malta for a week departing next week for £191, I suspect it might be a bit more than you expect for £90.

Alternatively, for around £89, I could get an Off Peak Return on a TfW "Holiday Special" from Manchester Piccadilly across the Welsh Border to Newport (South Wales). And then straight back home at the end of the day!

By "SC ex-carriages" do you mean camping coaches?
