When resignalling took place for the London Bridge area back in covid, one speed limit change I recall was the 20mph speed restriction through the down junction into Hither Green P6 was extended from the back of the platform to the front, where it increases to 40/60mph. This has meant passenger trains cannot accelerate away fully until the whole train has left the platform, which is particularly notable for the many 10-car formations that use it, which are practically halfway to Lee by the time they can go above 20mph. Freight trains, of which there are a fair few through here, must also be pegged back.
Was there a particular reason for doing this, especially as the up line still has its line speed positioning unchanged, so the 20mph starts at the front of the up platform and therefore only applies to the junction? While the timings are probably only slightly slower, the intensive use of the line and the commuter service nature makes this more impactful than if it were a rural branch line.
