I've been to Hitchin twice over the past week or so and there seems to be some sort of renovation of once barely used Hitchin Up Yard - about 9 days ago there were some workers removing overgrown grass and today new tracks and points (?) were being installed or deeply refurbished. In the past I've only seen the closest track to the mainline being used for stone freight trains waiting for their timetabled slot on the mainline, but it looks like the yard will get more life in the future. Does anyone know what's the plan for it and how is it used now/will be used after the work is done?

The Yard entry line shows as being electrified, maybe some more is being wired.

Road 1 (wired) & 2 have been only usable ones for as long as I can remember. But not used by GTR due to the walking route being dug up in previous works a couple of years ago. Stone train can use both - was on 2 a couple of weeks ago when the GN 387 was dragged into road 1 with a seized axel.

Was told 2 roads were to be relaid and wired for ETCS test trains but NR have dug up and relaid roads 3 & 4, access from south end only. Been past a few times and doesn’t look like enough clearance to put structures in but may still happen.

Thanks for the replies, I'll be travelling to Hitchin in a couple of days probably, so can check out what's happening.
