History question, did WAGN run 12 car trains when they operated in and out of Liverpool Street? When did they start?

December 2011, once the Class 379s were introduced. This is when platforms at Stansted Mountftitchet, Sawbridgeworth, Broxbourne and Cheshunt were all lengthened, and 7/8 was built at Cambridge.

Ironically, when the peak 1Hxx fasts were lengthened, the stops at the lengthened platforms were removed!

So in 317 times everything was max 8 in passenger service?

I believe so, yes.

In WAGN days 12 car 317s were run on Stansted Express at busy times (bank holidays etc). Required bus substitution for Mountfichet calls as this way way before any platform extensions.

12 car 317s did run very occasionally to / from Cambridge but calls were removed at 8 car stations as it was a control move. Don't think Class 317s are allowed to operate as 12 cars anymore on this route, only Stadlers and Class 379s.

And how about more Inner - Suburban duties? Chingford/Enfield Town etc?

Further back in history 9 car trains could operate on the Chingford and Enfield lines (3 x 3 car class 305/1 units), but Cheshunt bay was restricted to 7 cars before it was lengthened to take 8.
