I think a couple of TPE jobs are booked to come over the junction at Wigan North Western and run via Hindley for route retention, rather than everything via Chorley

Looking at the timetable, there aren't any TPE services it could be around that time (they all stop at Chorley), unless it was very late.

Could have been an ECS move, though.

A very rare showing indeed not often you see ANYTHING other than the usual Northern Rail DMU's on that line. Not since the Virgin Voyager service from Wigan-Manc (via Bolton) ended and the morning metal box freight run many years ago.

Surely as a 57+390 is due through every night Sunday-Thursday and there's a daily Monday-Friday TPE service it isn't that rare?

maybe but it is a very dull line both via Atherton and Bolton - see's very little in the way of freight and railtours.

The metal box spur at Wersthoughton has now been all but lifted as the metal box has been demolished and replaced by a modrn housing estate. That used to see a early morning freight run.
