Hi

I'm sure this must have been discussed but can't find it on the forum. To travel to London in peak hours I used to get a ticket from east kent into Hatfield/potters bar/Basildon which was cheaper. Are any of these types of tickets remaining or other ways of getting a cheaper ticket than £88? I've been told a single then an off peak ticket is a bit cheaper but not as cheap!

Thanks for your advice.

Depending on exactly where you're travelling from there are some relative bargains. The problem with posting anomalous fares on here is that they quickly get seen by train company pricing managers who will 'fix' them. These sort of things are best discussed at a forum meal or event.

Do feel free to sign up to attend an upcoming event.

As you say, even if you're not eligible for any other Railcard, you will save money getting a Network Railcard and buying an undiscounted Anytime Day Single in the morning and then a Network Railcard-discounted Super Off-Peak Day Single in the evening. This would cost a total of £75.95 each day assuming travel from Canterbury to St Pancras on HS1.

If you're commuting into London 7+ times in a given 4 week period, you would save money by buying a Flexi Season. This costs £460.70 for 8 days' validity within a 28 day period, so the equivalent of £57.59 per day if used in full.

There are a few other cheaper options out there, but I'm not going to discuss them publicly because they will simply be "fixed" as the Hatfield etc. fares have been.
