And I know people who commute from Thanet who probably pay more just to get to their job rather than take the car - it happens all over, people make the choices they do whether that’s have children or live outside of London and have a job in London. Personal choice is at stake here. They don’t have to if they don’t want to. Could get a job in the midlands could they not?
Who said anything about working in London? My friends are in fact having a day trip to London. With two adults travelling to London it’s cheaper to travel by car and split the cost of fuel. Hopefully HS2 might change all this but that's 20 years away.
Anyway thanks for skirting over this post
Oh please! Do you honestly believe that to be the case? I'm over in the US at the moment and was too tired to go back through all the pages that I'd missed. Good grief!

No, Ill probably still vote Tory like I have always done thanks. And if you cant be bothered to notice the sarcasm then thats fine, even though I spelled it out later on.
The biggest tragedy here is that your feeble attempt at sarcasm was missed by everyone and you've had to come back with 'ahem, excuse me, sarcasm anyone?' To be honest the whole thing sounded like the kind of ill informed rant normally associated with the likes of Godfrey Bloom.
How is saying it will create thousands of jobs a poor arguement? So what if the trains get built in France or Germany, the infrastructure will still be built here given its a HS line in this country, that means you will need people and plant and places to house those people and plant. You will need a very large supply chain also and whilst granted some may come from abroad there will still be componenets supplied by UK firms - which is a good thing is it not? Or do you think a massive infrastructure project will just sudddenly appear one day without using anyone or anything to build it?
The jobs created by the construction of HS2 will only be short term. Once the contracts are finished the work will also dry up. Not only that but construction companies in the UK have very little experience of building high speed lines which leads me to believe that the contract may well be awarded to an overseas company. From what I recall all the design work for HS1 was done by an overseas company. The track itself is a French design. The tunneling machines for Crossrail were built by a German company. The fact that a dumper truck will be operated by a bloke from Milton Keynes is not the be all and end all. And who is to say that cheap foreign labour won't be used to build the line? Mind you, with your previous rant in mind......
And why is there no guarantee that a UK company will not win the contract to build it? Have you got any facts or figures to back up your claim? Are you claiming that UK firms are not up to the mark of building such a large railway project? ARE YOU REALLY?
My goodness , judging by the block capitals you really do need to calm yourself down Clip. At this rate you'll end up bursting a blood vessel and that would be awful. There is no guarantee that a UK firm will win the contract to build the line simply because there will be strong competition from overseas firms who have previous experience in such matters. It would be wholly unacceptable to award the contract to a company simply on the basis that they are British. Value for money and a strong track record is all that matters here.
Now how many of those are UK firms or even joint ventures between UK firms and others? Do you know what that list of companies is for?
I have no idea Clip but I can see that you're itching to tell me.
So you tell me what that list is for and then get back to me again to tell me why you seem to be glad that there is no guarantee that UK firms will be awarded the building contract.
Clip, I would be pretty annoyed if the final decision to award a contract to a British company was made purely because they are based in the UK. In doing that the DfT would have failed this country. The whole process must come down to value for money and reputation.
Brilliant bit of posting this. It's the internet and whilst people do strive to spell correctly, some people cant and some people just really dont care as long as you can understand what they are saying.
The organisation that I run often receives applications from Graduates when we are looking to fill positions. All too often their command of the English language is appalling and I'm sorry but
and some people just really dont care as long as you can understand what they are saying is simply not good enough. Suffice to say that kind of attitude won't get anybody anywhere, certainly not if you're looking to have a successful career. There can be no excuse for laziness and not being bothered to use a spell check function.
Well done for poiting out someone hasnt spelled something correctly in your attempt to try and belittle them and their views. *Golf claps all round*
What in the name of God is a "Golf clap"?

I agree, if I had good primary school teachers who would have spotted I had Dislexyia and didn't say he's a bight kid he'll get it in time then my spelling wouldn't be as bad.
I'm sorry to hear that you suffer from Dyslexia, although thankfully it does appear to be a mild form of the condition. Having said that I have noticed that you are unable to spell the condition. Never the less you might find that spell check is helpful when posting comments here.
