As the issue of airports alongside HS2 in the North east has been raised, I would just like to point out that the RAF plan to close Church Fenton airfield at the end of this year.
It would make an ideal site for a Yorkshire airport as the airfield is less than a mile from the railway (a mile from the station) and trains can get there from virtually all over Yorkshire and elsewhere.
The A1(M) and M1 are only a couple of miles away giving access to the M62.
For a park and ride station on HS2 it would be ideal. You can't regard York as one, due to the existing serious traffic congestion in York and around the station.
I raise this only in jest, as the residents of Church Fenton are up-in-arms about HS2 anyway, so having a regional airport dumped on them as well would be the last straw.
