Do you have a source for that? Be interesting to have a look at that
It's on the HS2 website / document.
And your point is?
The main destination from Halesowen & Rugeley is Birmingham but at the moment the uncompetitive times by public transport mean people drive.
Again, missing the point. If a 2 track HS2 line stopped everywhere, it would defeat the object. If HS2 was 4 track, the case for intermediate stations along the route increases dramatically.
It shouldn't be a 2-track railway, that is the point. Making the route 'high speed' reduces the ability for it to actually be useful.
Current plans show Birmingham City Centre station as a Terminus so it would be foolish to stop here and reverse as the journey time would increase. Birmingham Interchange (by the airport) is on the main route.
Leeds services simply should never go near the West Midlands. However there are currently no plans for any trains to stop at Birmingham Interchange other than the Birmingham services (so people from Manchester wishing to use the airport will still have to use a Voyager via Wolves)
Ignoring your exaggeration, I believe HS2 should be 4 track at least until the planned Y split
The cost of providing 250mph makes it unaffordable for 4 track. The route WILL be 2-track and hence stupid.
A 390 running at 140mph over HS2 (even to Birmingham) would do the journey in less time than on the current WCML
A 140 mph train will not be able to travel over the 250mph HS2 - my whole point is that should be a 140/155mph 'classic' railway....and 4 track
Its also worth remembering that with the WCML full from 2020 its hard not to see some stops being ommitted before HS2 opens anyway in order to cope with long-distance demand.
People love to quote this 2020 (or 2016) figure but is there any evidence that is will be 'full' by that date? According to NR, the MML is already 'full' but I don't the money rushing to put back in all the missing track:roll:
