High Peak Bus Company / Trentbarton Split [Merged Thread]

Last Saturday I was at Ashbourne Bus Station (an excellent optimistic description) at about 1700, and I saw a High Peak bus with service number 1 to somewhere like 'Black Lane' - certainly not the name of a town or village. Unfortunately I had to jump on my Buxton bus before it completely registered in my head. I couldn't find a no. 1 on the Derbyshire CC website (unless I've missed something obvious, which is possible at my age).

There is a 101 to Thorpe at that time, but I would have expected it to show 'Thorpe' if it were that service.

Any ideas?

Does the railway bridge have the minimum height requirement sign affixed to it, clearly on view to road users ?

Incidentally, what route does the TransPeak normally use to access Stockport bus station, when coming from Manchester along the A6.

There is a buses only slip Road just before the Southbound 192 stop BB on Wellington Road North that links Mersey Square, buses then go down Mersey Square & under Wellington Road North into the bus station.

You should be a detective JC! I've no idea if the driver checked before or how you do it on modern buses (I think it was an Optare). In the old days of course there was the winding handle to move the blind round.

I suppose it must have been the 101.

Was that service in the link the one that replaced the previous Macclesfield to Forest Cottage route ?

Yes. It works around the 392/3 route not being well timed to be a self-contained route so they do a short trip in Macclesfield to prevent long layovers or a timetable without a standard pattern.

There used to be a 42 service from Buxton to Ashbourne that was much quicker than the rural 442 service. I cannot seem to trace any replacement for this, but if there is can someone let me know please.

Well, I guess the once a day 441 service is it! 0930 from Ashbourne and 1315 from Buxton. It goes main road between Buxton and Newhaven and does go via Tissington Village, so isn't quite main road only. Timed for 45 minute journey as opposed to 75 minutes for the other journeys on 442. Probably operated by a bread van!

As it's High Peak it will most probably be a Solo.

I presume the 42s were carrying a lot of fresh air, admirable though the aim was to reduce journey times between Buxton and Ashbourne. The 442 has been speeded up slightly by running directly between Ashbourne and Tissington, journeys to Mapleton and Thorpe being replaced by a local service 101. The settlement of Sterndale Moor seems to have been a big loser of the withdrawal of the 42 (and I suppose Newhaven, though it's more of a hamlet).
