What is a high density conversion?
I heard they are taking the first class off of some of the desiro's has this got anything to do with it?

well they might be 5 coaches and for mainly the windsor line only!.

No first class, 2+2 seating, red paintwork is supposed to go on too. 4 coaches at the moment, may be extended to 5. For Hounslow loop primarily with additionals either on Waterloo rounders or Windsor.

Any idea how many 450s will be converted? This means restricting them to the services they are designed for, something further to add to the Pompey battle against the 450s because no doubt some day something will go wrong and they'll end up on a Pompey fast service!

Speaking to my manager at putney earlier he said that the first class is deffinately going and 2+2 seating is for standing purposes most deffinately and no plans to change the colour scheme or length of the 450s, plan is to extend only the main stations, putney richmond twickenham etc to run 10car 444s on them during the rush hour on readings and windsors, loop passengers will have to continue suffering unfortunately.

Not complaining i prefer 444's anyhow lol. Mind you im moving off the platforms onto the trains as a guard next week anyway so would be a nice change of some different traction.

I don't think you'll be getting 10 car 444s to Reading or Windsor. 10 car 450s more like.

Nah they only converting something like 28 450s and most will be on pompey line still and theres enough 444s for the windsor services, this came from my manager who got told by our area manager.

Don't you think the fleet isn't stretched enough already? If there's any free 444s, they'll be used for Portsmouth and Alton services. Unless more 444s are on the way, but as far as I know SWT ruled out that possibility. The way you tell it would be like 'one' putting 321s on Norwich expresses and 90s + LHCS on Braintree services!

Your manager is wrong, just so wrong.
450 048 (the testbed) is still initially in blue livery which may or not be repainted following a successful trial. The likelihood is it will be repainted into inner suburban red.
There are plans afoot to extend a certain 28 class 450s to 5 car length for loop and Windsor services. No 444s will operate on the line - not to mention some of the dodgy platform clearances if doors are released on some of the platforms on the line. Why do you think that on Sundays 444s diverted via Staines never release their doors between Woking and Clapham yet generally eat up the path of another service (ie, the 2nd Reading from December, I think that's going in at the change...).
There is no spare stock for 444s down the line anyway - Pompey and Weymouth already have their share which eats 43 units including maintenance allowances, which happens to be the max available units currently! It would be rather pointless to put hi-density inner suburban 450s on a 1h45 long distance service, no?

Try telling swt that then when they stopped 5 10car 444s at twickenham enroute from weymouth few months back then

No - they were en-route from Bournemouth & Portsmouth Harbour and it was 2 Sunday evenings in succession - they can stop if its not frequent but if it is every day I daresay the disability organisations will have some issues.

So it is confirmed that the Windsor line will be getting red 450's with no FC section? or has there been confusion over the Windsor line loosing its 450's and getting the refurb'd 455/8s back in their new guise.
