It's a Voith Maxima, a diesel hydraulic loco available in 3000hp and 4000hp forms, and I happen to think that they're quite attractive in terms of loco design!

Indeed it is. As for ugly trains in general, not just locos, I'm not keen on the IC3 trains, but I have to admit that the full width gangway connection is a good idea:Beatuty is in the eye of the beholder etc.....

Yes it is, it's very original, the combination of blue and grey on a train!!!
Maybe BR Engineering have a secret facility in the ex-soviet states, where they continued to produce the APT-E, and this will be unleished as the new Intercity Express Program, This is merely the diesel loco to haul it over non electrified sections, (due to the shortage of gas, the APT-E may have been converted to electric power). You heard it here first!!
As you say. IC3s are one of my favs, although I prefer the Danish livery.

Well, it has a bit more character to it than the previous loco, the colour scheme is awful and, yes, the general shape leaves a lot to be desired.
