Hi,
I live on the Surrey/Berks/Hants border and am very new to this, so please bear with me, I'm more into the photographic side of things rather than "Spotting" and wondered where the best places in my area are for variety of rolling stock, I spent an hour at Fleet Station yesterday hoping to snap a freight train but alas all that came through were the passenger ones :sad3:

Hi Damon,
Thanks for the info and timing the other day, I've joined the yahoo group you mentioned. Just a couple more questions at the moment, while these timings you gave me are scheduled timings would I be likley to catch anything unscheduled at any time, obviously if they are unscheduled no one knows they are coming but is it likely if I wait long enough? Also are there no freight operations weekends at all through Farnborough/Fleet

Sorry they are prob dumb questions but I am new :)

The only scheduled weekend freight through Farnborough/Fleet is on a Sunday at around 21:35 (20:20 Southampton to Leeds - Freightliner) which is obviously not going to be good for photos. As for unsheduled interesting movements, you may be able to catch the odd light loco movements on Monday around mid-morning or Friday afternoon but in all honesty I would keep an eye out on that Yahoo Group rather than go out on the off chance.

It's not all bad, however, as during the Summer we receive regular steam hauled railtours, either on the mainline or via Guildford. Some of them stop at either Winchfield or Fleet for water. Check out http://www.uksteam.info/tours/trs07.htm

Thanks, as for the yahoo group, I'm still trying to decipher some of the messages at the moment, I'm on a very steep learning curve in railway slang and jargon at the moment :)

Welcome chap.
Can I just ask, where is Fleet?
One stop from good old Farnborough ;) Basically it's around 36 miles from London Waterloo on the 4-track section of the South Western Mainline (Waterloo to Southampton (Salisbury/Exeter services diverge approx 15 miles to the west at Basingstoke)).

I have circled Fleet in red and places you may have heard of in blue to help you get a better idea of where it is ;)

May have heard of?

I live no where near, am not all that familiar with anything outside the simulator section, and yet I've heard of all of them!

If you have not heard of them, please do not take offense.
