Heritage lines that use DMUs

Visited the Ecclesbourne valley railway recently and it's got me interested in older 1st gen DMUs, can any of you reccomend other preserved lines that run services with DMUs?

Just been looking into the NYMR but it looks a pain to get to from the Midlands...

The GCR has a three car DMU set in operation - and is looking to get a second set up and running.

Swanage Railway also has a Class 108 and a Class 121 which have been used for evening services in the Summer months over the passed few years, Both are at Eastleigh undergoing overhaul to mainline standards for use on the Wareham-Swanage services trial

I think Swanage also use their DMU sometimes for the "very low season" timetable.

Only if there is problem with the kettle. The DMU's run a shuttle between Norden Park and Ride and Swanage in December for the Santa specials which run out and back from Swanage. Otherwise steam is timetabled all year round apart from Diesel day Events.

Keighley and Worth Valley Railway has always run early morning diesel services and some day services, including some interesting railbus types.

Spa Valley Railway run DEMU class 207 no. 1317 on selected midweek dates in April, July and August.
Lavender Line at Isfield run their class 205 on certain dates.

I strongly recommend a visit to the Midland Railway Centre, Butterley when they have their DMU gala. They have several units and it’s always a good day.

One of the rail buses is under going repair at Ingrow (or at least it was last Friday) and I'm guessing that the other one is based at Haworth. However as we didn't take a tour of the shed at Haworth I'm not able to confirm this.

There is running on the Mountsorrel Branch line (GCR) March 25/26 and that should be a DMU working.

Kent & East Sussex Railway makes use of a DMU too as well I believe from memory.

There are even some second generation Pacer DMUs used on Heritage Railways.

140 001 - Keith & Dufftown Railway
141 103 - Weardale Railway
141 108 - Colne Valley Railway
141 113 - Midland Railway

It seems like the majority of Heritage Railways have at least one DMU but there are some that dont.

Also i believe the Helston Railway has a class 103 in use (which i believe is the only class 103 that wasnt scrapped).

Look to look into here then, steam doesn't really interest me but DMUs have something about them.

An odd one is the Southend pier railway- that uses a sort of DMU!

One of the railbuses was working the morning diesel services on the KWVR the Saturday before last; we were surprised to see such a peculiar little contraption when we passed it on the steam train going the other way!

North Norfolk Railway has 2 class 101 units, used mostly in quieter parts of the year. One is currently undergoing major works, the other is in service.
The Mid-Norfolk also has several DMUs, although I don't have the details.

Yes they have DMUs, I think they've got a mixture of 115s and 117s? None that are passed for the mainline unfortunately.

Wensleydale Railway is regularly DMU

They also have a 121 bubble car. I have a part share in it but I have heard next to sod all from them since I paid my money just about 2 years ago.

Llangollen and Wensleydale lines look to be the more interesting lines, so definitely on the "to do" list for this year.

Love the idea of doing the Keith and Dufftown and Strathspey lines too, but they'll have to wait for now, having an 8 month old son limits how far I can travel somewhat...
