I heard a rumour at Mallard Event at Doncaster this weekend regarding the main frames for Hengist were incorrectly cut and after reading the Clan Project blog on Facetube, it seems to be true.
I am as saddened as those Hengist members are by this turn of events and hope that the 3rd party beneficiary will allow the project to recover and move forwards. I do NOT know the facts and so will not comment either way but only to say that other new build projects will hopefully learn from this and prevent any future repetition. I wish the project better times ahead and indeed hope it galvanizes the other new-build projects to cooperate more closely with one-another, information shared and lessons learned only help to build better products. All those new builds would do well to cooperate, pool knowledge and experience as the original steam builders are long gone along with their skills, knowledge and experience and cannot help us.
I am not a Clan member nor connected with the build or Riley's or any competitive society, I see us as ALL member of the railway preservation fraternity and irrespective of historical company (big 4) affiliations, we must cooperate together. I only wish the project well and best of luck
Good luck, keep calm and carry on ... and teamwork. My old CEGB engineering tutor always beat it into us, 'measure thrice ... cut once!'
