Thoughts with all the staff losing their jobs, hopefully most of them will find jobs with other firms who will take on some of HTs routes.

Completely unacceptable that staff will get no wages, a situation that would not be allowed in many European countries.

A bus company run by two Rangers directors said it has safeguarded jobs at a bus firm which is understood to have ceased trading.

McGill's Buses said it has taken over 13 contracts previously run by Henderson Travel, which employs around 150 people.

It is in talks with the 120 or so Henderson Travel bus drivers and is offering them employment.

Strathclyde Passenger Transport (SPT) said Henderson Travel had 20 contracts with them and had breached the terms of their contract by not providing services on Thursday.

SPT used emergency powers to offer the contract to another operator.

Ralph Roberts, managing director of McGill's, said: "These contracts will be under emergency powers and will usually be for one to three months. Then they will go back out to re-tender."

They will run 41 routes over 13 contracts, he said.

McGill's is run by Rangers directors James and Sandy Easdale.

Sandy Easdale said his team had been able to "move very fast" to save jobs.

He added: "This is part of McGill's continued growth strategy."

Henderson Travel, based in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, runs services across the west of Scotland but it is understood to have ceased trading with administrators to be appointed.

The company runs SPT's school contracts in South Lanarkshire and other services in areas including Hamilton, Glasgow and East Kilbride.

SPT said they had not been formally contacted by Henderson Travel.

An SPT spokeswoman said: "They are in breach of contract with us. Under emergency powers we have offered the contract out to another operator. We are reviewing it on a day to day basis."

I have to say, I'm rather surprised by the way SPT is handling this. Never mind the people who might be losing their jobs, or the fact they are keeping services running, they make a song and dance about not fulfilling the contract. Odd also how they were able to award an emergency contract so quickly - usually when an operator of that size fails there is a few days where things settle down, buses come in all sorts of shapes and sizes...

There is not a single word about the company ceasing travel on the SPT website: they have simply renamed the service provider in their timetables page and nothing more. Usually, local authorities want to make it clear to passengers that buses may be in a different colour, some journeys may not run, etc. Hendersons website is still live, and McGills have it as a "news" item with a list of services they've taken over.

Some services haven't been running as scheduled despite McGills/SPT saying that they are + they're refusing to brief Traveline or update their site. It's madness.

Traveline Scotland don't do updates until early Thursday morning.

Lets be fair here, within one day another company has taken over, its going to take wee bit of time to get things sorted.

Absolutely don't dispute that, it's understandable. My point was that they knew the buses weren't going to run, but didn't tell anyone, or update their site. Just causes complaints and people standing out in the cold for no reason.
